I am very excited to be running for State Senate in Chittenden County. My deep understanding of our State and our region come not just from my many years of public service, but from my experience as a neighbor, family man and small business owner. As an involved father of two children who attend our local schools, an attorney with my own practice, and a dedicated public servant, I know the many joys and challenges of living and working in Vermont.
I have been committed to public service in Vermont for nearly twenty years. I am currently serving as the Vice Chair of the Chittenden County Metropolitan Planning Organization. Previously I also served as the President of the Burlington City Council and President of the Channel 17 Board of Trustees.
As a member of the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the past five years, I have helped to shape transportation planning for our region. While part of MPO’s work is focused on our roads and bridges, I am particularly interested in strengthening our commitment to alternative means of transportation including bikes, pubic transit and rail. This will allow us to decrease our dependence on the car, reduce congestion in our streets while at the same time improving the accessibility of all that our region has to offer.
I also had the privilege of serving on the Burlington City Council for fifteen years. As a City Councilor, I advanced a number of initiatives to help improve all aspects of the quality of life in Burlington. During my tenure on the Council, when problems arose in the City, I often played a critical role in helping to resolve them. I was also committed to making City government as open, transparent and accessible as possible. This is a commitment that I will take with me to Montpelier because our government can only truly work for the people of our State if it is open, transparent and accessible.
As a member of the Channel 17/Town Meeting TV Board of Trustees for seven years, I am most proud of the transition we made to make of our programming accessible on our web site. In this way, anyone can watch any recorded governmental meeting or other Channel 17 program on their own computer and on their own schedule.
I am now running for State Senate because I care deeply about our region and our State and I have the experience and know-how to make a positive difference for you in Montpelier. I believe that it is critical that we promote new opportunities for economic and job development in the State, provide quality education for our children, protect our environment, ensure that we have a steady source of clean, renewable energy, provide affordable health care to all in need, improve our transportation systems, and that we finally bring Vermont into the 21st century by providing for broadband coverage throughout the State.
Our State is facing serious challenges and as one of your six State Senators, I will apply my knowledge and extensive experience to help move Vermont forward. I am asking for your vote on election day. Together, we can ensure that Vermont is a thriving state in which we choose to live, work and play.
Thank you for your support!
